Admission Requirements

International Students

Application Deadlines:

For full consideration, completed applications should be received before

April 1st each year for admission the following Fall Semester.
November 1st each year for admission the following Spring Semester.
March 15th each year for admission the following Summer Semester.

Application Fees:

There is no fee for the pre-screening application to the Department of Chemistry graduate program. After a student has accepted an offer to attend the University of Utah, an application to the University of Utah Graduate School will be filed. Application fees are provided by the department.

Financial Assistance

Most graduate students are granted teaching fellowships that provide a maximum annual stipend and a tuition waiver. In addition, the Chemistry Department will provide a basic health insurance plan to students who are not otherwise covered by a policy.

A limited number of students receive Henry Eyring Research Fellowships to do research in the summer preceding their first year of graduate school. In addition, a special fellowship in the amount of $1,000 is offered to particularly outstanding graduate students. Funding for travel to scientific meetings is also possible.

All Ph.D students in good academic standing are guaranteed five years of financial support, either as a Teaching Assistant or as a Research Assistant.

The typical annual salary is $21,500 (as of Fall 2008).
